DUBAI: Models Imaan Hammam and Bella Hadid walked the runway for Italian design house Versace at its Milan Men’s Fashion Week show on Saturday.
Creative Director Donatella Versace is looking to dress a man whose masculinity is challenged by neither lace, nor neon nor florals, AP reported.
The Versace man is ready to work in a double-breasted pinstriped suit but leaves the shirt unbuttoned to show off a Versace T-shirt that reads like Tabloid newsprint. The headline: “Versace finally speaks out.”
The flash soon followed, with shiny red snakeskin coats over mid-thigh shorts and Versace newsprint tops. Boxy jackets with flat pockets were worn with matching shorts, dressed up with a woman’s cross-body bag.
Men wore sheer tops over legible T-shirts, lace detailing on military-style knitwear and floral print suits with buttons left open to show off necklaces and belly-button jewelry. Flashes of neon green and orange closed the show, in knit sleeveless tops that show off a man’s hours at the gym. The bright footwear included the Versace Chain Reaction sneaker.

The menswear runway was punctuated by corresponding looks for women, including US-Palestinian Hadid in a snug leather mini with form-accentuating ruffle accents, Dutch-Egyptian-Moroccan Hammam in a graphic T-shirt and hot pants and Kendall Jenner in a body-hugging floral mini with thigh-high boots.
Meanwhile, iconic supermodel Naomi Campbell and Italian star Monica Bellucci injected Hollywood-octane oomph in to the second day of fashion week, sporting sizzling men’s suits teamed with skyscraper stilettos for Dolce & Gabbana.
With an over-the-top gilt and baroque decor glittering in the background, the 48-year-old Campbell was a vision from top to bottom from her elegant black hat with a white band to her sparkling silver heels, AFP reported.
She wore a classic pinstripe suit with a carefully mismatched bow tie adorning her crisp white shirt.
Bellucci showed off a three-piece coal black suit with a wide lapel, teetering on vertiginous heels with her hands in her pockets.
The younger models were heartthrobs of the Millennials — a target group for the house — including actor Cameron Dallas, Chinese singer and actor Karry Wang and Kailand Wander, the son of US music legend Stevie Wonder.
Apart from Campbell and Bellucci’s suits, the other offerings bore the quirky, sassy D&G stamp: Suits encrusted with precious stones or layered with dazzling silver and gold embroidery that the maison put down to a “Gothic inspiration.”
Milan will showcase 28 ready-to-wear collections to reveal the Spring/Summer 2019 lines.
Among the major Italian names showing between now and Monday are Prada and Giorgio Armani.
The overseas fashion houses taking part include Britain’s Stella McCartney, Canada’s Dsquared2 and Germany’s Philipp Plein.
McCartney is returning to Milan after a four-year absence and will close the fashion week on Monday evening.

Teyana Taylor flaunts Ashi Studio gown

DUBAI: US singer-songwriter and actress Teyana Taylor attended the 41st Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Sunday in a gown by Saudi Arabia couturier Mohammed Ashi.

The gown is from the designer’s Paris-based label Ashi Studio, specifically its Spring/Summer 2026 couture collection.

The all-white look featured a corseted bodice, frayed fabric and slick material offering an experimental wet look to the gown.

Taylor has been on something of a fashion run lately, while promoting Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another.”

Her performance has been widely praised, earning her the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress, as well as nominations from SAG-AFTRA, BAFTA and the Academy Awards.

Meanwhile, Paramount confirmed last week that “Get Lite,” Taylor’s feature directorial debut, will arrive in cinemas next spring. The film is scheduled for wide theatrical release on April 9, 2027.

Set in New York, the story centers on a gifted yet protected dance student whose world expands when he unexpectedly discovers community, connection and purpose within the city’s subway system.

US actor Storm Reid is set to lead the cast and also serve as a producer on the project, alongside US writer Kenya Barris and actor and filmmaker Anni Weisband. Taylor also registers as an executive producer.

The film “Get Lite” marks Taylor’s first feature as a director. While she is best known for her work as a performer, Taylor has previously directed several music videos, including her own projects “Gonna Love Me” and “Rose in Harlem.”

Those works offered early insight into her visual sensibility and interest in storytelling driven by music and movement, paving the way for her transition into long-form narrative filmmaking.

Beyond film, Taylor has also reached a milestone in music, securing her first Grammy nomination in 2026 for her latest album “Escape Room.”

Ashi’s creations have been worn by celebrities and stars including Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Hudson, Kylie Minogue, Penelope Cruz, Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor, and Queen Rania of Jordan.

Ashi became the first couturier from the Gulf region to join the Federation de la Haute Couture in Paris as a guest member in 2023. He was also the first Gulf designer included in the BoF 500 list, the Business of Fashion’s index of people shaping the fashion industry in 2023.
