Daily Times report by Tahir Khan from Islamabad states that the US Defense Secretary James Mattis emphasized on the need for offensive against the Taliban in a bid to weaken them and force them to the negotiations table, during his recent Pakistan visit. According to a Pakistani official, who commented on this statement, the United States did not threaten Pakistan but called for a simultaneous action involving the United States and Pakistan against the Taliban to achieve this end.
