DUBAI: Three people have been told to provide an Abu Dhabi court with evidence that they have not been involved in illicit relations in two separate cases, UAE daily Gulf News has reported.
In the first case a 32-year-old woman who was visiting the UAE, is accused of having had intercourse and kissing others outside of wedlock.
The woman, who denies the charges, was asked by the judge at the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance: “You don’t know that having sexual intercourse and intimate kissing out of marriage are considered a crime in the UAE?”
It is claimed she had illicit relations with people staying in the apartment with her.
The court has asked her to provide evidence through a defense lawyer backing up her denial.
In a separate case two Arab nationals appeared at the court also accused of having intercourse outside of wedlock.
Again the defendants denied the charges, prompting the judge to say: “You commit the crime and then here you deny that.”
The judge added: “So if you deny these charges, then produce evidence in the next hearing and defend your case.”
Both hearings will return to the court on Sept. 6.
