DUBAI: A doting mother in Philadelphia threw her son a Dubai-themed pre-prom party and is making waves online over its extravagance.
Saudia Shuler spent more than $25,000 to throw her son Johnny Eden Jr. the ultimate extravagant bash.
The New York Post reported Saturday that the party included three sports cars, three tons of sand and a camel.
The 43-year-old mother told the newspaper that her son is the reason she made it through a difficult three-year health struggle which saw her battle preliminary thyroid cancer and suffer a stroke.
“He struggled a lot when I was sick, I couldn’t walk. I couldn’t go to the bathroom on my own. He had to go through all that and still go to school. I said, ‘If I make it through this, I’m going to make his prom the best’,” she told the newspaper.
“It’s not like I had $25,000 sitting around. Family and friends helped, too. Probably $8,000 of that was my personal money,” she told the New York Post.
A neighbor supplied the sand while an aunt rented a Lamborghini and a Rolls Royce.
“I wanted to take him and his friends to Dubai but I thought, why not let the whole community experience Dubai? Plus, he had too many friends,” she said.
