RIYADH: George Oliveira, deputy foreign minister and minister of investment and foreign trade of Portugal, has called on Saudi businessmen to invest in his country.
Manuel Carvalho, Portuguese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, was among those present besides top officials from Portugal.
The visiting official said that his country has a lot to offer in various sectors, including energy, tourism, manpower training, technology, agriculture, food, and health care.
Addressing a top Saudi businessmen at the Council of Saudi Chambers, Oliveira said Saudi Arabia is an important partner of Portugal and is one of the largest markets in the region.
He said more business partnerships are possible after signing an agreement on double taxation and preventing tax evasion.
“We have very attractive investment environment in my country for foreign investors,” he said, stressing the need to enhance business community relations, exchange of information and delegations in addition to organizing trade exhibitions and commercial activities.
CSC Secretary-General Omar Bahalioh said that economic relations between the Kingdom and Portugal are good but they are way below the aspirations of the leadership of the two countries, while opportunities are available for investors in the Saudi economy.
He underlined the importance of cooperation in small and medium enterprises sector in the light of the Economic Vision of Saudi Arabia- 2030 for this sector which focuses on the role of the private sector in development, which is a vast opportunity for trading partners, to engage in projects sector and investment partnerships with his Saudi counterpart.
He referred to the direction of growth of the Saudi economy toward food security and agricultural investment abroad that would open an opportunity for cooperation between the two sides.
