If you are a coffee lover like me, you are bound to visit every specialist coffee house in the city that you are visiting.
In Dubai, there are a number of good coffee houses, but my recent discovery and new addiction is The Brass. This newly opened café and roastery offers coffee from around the world under one roof.
To me, it was convenient for it is located on City Walk Dubai and offers indoor as well as outdoor seating. Each table is provided with electrical outlets, making it a perfect place to sip a good cup of coffee and work on your laptop anytime of the day.
When you walk in, you instantly feel like home, thanks to the décor in calming blue, crème and gold colors.
The coffee shop is a homegrown brand, it is developed by the community for the community. Its team of coffee experts have deep insights into both the international, local and regional coffee cultures.
The Brass is specialized in in-house bean roasting and names their products after Dubai’s most famous neighborhoods and districts. It’s the ultimate new go to coffee hot spot in town, which is more than an average coffeehouse.
The Brass Blend is smooth, zesty and spiced. This is their signature curated blend, a full-bodied, aromatic roast of Monsoon Malabar beans, originating from the Malabar Coast of India. Crafted over many months, it is both modern and exotic, a nod to the city of Dubai.
The Deira Blend is aromatic, spiced with a hint of blueberry. This is a coffee rooted in heritage, taken from its origins to the Arab traders who took it to the Arabian Peninsula and then out to the world.
The Beach Blend is balanced and fragrant with a hint of hazelnut. This smooth, very balanced blend of Kenyan AA beans is easy and mellow — a perfect all-day brew to enjoy under wide blue skies.
The City Blend is rich, earthy and smokey. It is a truly cosmopolitan blend derived from Indonesia Lingtong beans.
The Creek Blend is complex, richly spiced and fruity. It is their most Arabesque of blends created from Yemen Al-Haraazi beans. This blend pays homage to The Dubai Creek trading culture with its complex, richly spiced and fruity taste.
This is a café that reflects Dubai itself — fresh and light, with mixed influences, contemporary and eclectic with heritage elements. The menu seamlessly melds what is part of our daily lives — the integration of Eastern and Western lifestyles. The Brass is not about imposing international styles, it is about developing our own and taking great pride in that.
The Brass also offers a menu filled with healthy choices of salads, sandwiches and baked goods that complement your coffee choices. The food is a blend between Mediterranean and Arabic choices. My favorites are the Moroccan salad made with lamb or chicken, pine nuts, chickpeas, sumac, rosewater and mint yogurt as well as the Moroccan spiced pulled lamb flatbread that is served with mint-rosewater yogurt. There is something about Moroccan food that makes it so inviting — a splash of flavor in every bite.
Other great choices include the Levantine made with red and brown quinoa, parsley, heirloom tomatoes and shallots served with preserved lemon dressing. This should be ordered with the Sumac & Lemon Chicken Wrap made with red onions, baby gem lettuce served with minted yogurt. These two go perfectly together, the quinoa is a great healthy choice for a light lunch, but if you are looking for something more, then choose the chicken sandwich.
If cheese is on your mind, then go for The Brass Croque Monsieur, which is thinly sliced turkey layered with aged gruyere cheese and topped with pistachio brioche. This is heavy but the pistachio crisps are just pieces of heaven.
This is The Brass’ first outlet. The brand plans to expand drastically this year with over a few venues throughout the UAE and then eventually across the region.
