Al-Hanateen dunes mark a historic trade route across northern Saudi Arabia

Towering dunes lie alongside the historical Western Trade Route that followed the edge of the Nafud Desert from Turbah to Al-Hayaniyah on its way to Kufa
The passage offered fewer water sources and was more difficult to cross but its distance from major roads made it relatively safer for small caravans and lone travelers
