Six things to know about Dubai’s Meta Film Festival
Dubai’s inaugural Meta Film Fest is set to screen 70 films from 25 countries this coming weekend. Here’s what movie fans need to know.
The movies will be screened at Vox Cinemas at the Nakheel Mall in Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, from Oct. 27-29.
English writer Emily Bronte’s biography, nominated at the Toronto International Film Festival, will be screened at the festival.
The dystopian Iranian film, which received three nominations at the Berlin International Film Festival and Best Film nominations at the Festival du Nouveau Cinema and Sao Paulo International Film Festival, will be screened at the festival.
Fifty-six shortlisted films will be judged by a jury of seven to receive one of the 10 prestigious awards at the awards ceremony on Oct. 29.
The jury is headed by Nujoom Al-Ghanem, an award-winning Emirati director, poet and artist. Also present on the jury are Oscar-winning Spanish producer Andrés Vicente Gómez and award-winning Iranian producer Kaveh Farnam.
Apart from workshops on short films and film marketing, the festival will also hold a panel on “the critical elements of success in creating, marketing and distributing a movie,” featuring Egyptian Algerian filmmaker Ahmed Magdy.
