Citizens told to stay away from border areas

The General Directorate of Border Guards has warned citizens and residents against approaching border areas while picnicking to avoid violating regulations.
Border Guard spokesman Mohammed bin Saad Al-Ghamdi, called on citizens and residents to comply with the instructions and guidelines issued by the General Directorate of the Border Guards especially those concerned with security and safety.
Al-Ghamdi said that the issuance of guidelines for the border guards to increase the distance of the land border area to up to 20 kilometers from the border line has been declared and citizens are to abide by this ruling. The decision takes into account the Eastern region of Hafr Al-Batin and Tabuk in the northern border region.
In light of the spring season which witnesses large numbers of visitors and picnickers who come to enjoy the wilderness and the greenery, Al-Ghamdi warned that trespassers in the restricted border areas would not be tolerated and would face sanctions and harsh penalties.
