RIYADH: The medical complex that is being built in the north of Jeddah will be named King Abdullah Medical Complex in Jeddah, Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah announced in Riyadh yesterday.
Making the announcement, Al-Rabeeah expressed his thanks on behalf of his ministry to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah for agreeing to name the hospital after him.
He said the nation is grateful to the king for his continuous support and for serving the citizens by providing them with the best health care facilities and services.
Describing the new complex as an addition to the health care sector in the Kingdom, the minister said the new facility would serve the health needs of the people in the Western province.
He pointed out that the complex has a total capacity of 1,100 beds located in an area of 266,000 sq. meters. It has a specialized hospital with a capacity of 500 beds located in an area of 75,000 sq. meters. It will also include a 50-bed intensive care unit, 20 incubators for newborns and 16 beds to treat patients admitted for burns. In addition, it will have a separate section for accident victims.
The other facilities will include a center for neurological sciences and a specialized fertility center, eight operating theaters, two departments for cardiac catheterization, and 45 outpatient clinics in all disciplines of the hospital.
It will also have a 200-bed children and maternity hospital built in an area of 75,000 sq. meters. Besides a number of ophthalmological clinics, the complex will house more than 100 clinics in its dental department.
Health Ministry spokesman Khalid Al-Mirghalani said the construction of the 500-bed main hospital has been completed and the ministry is currently recruiting health officials to man the facility. He said this section of the complex would be opened soon to patients.

Red Sea cleanup initiative launches in Jeddah

JEDDAH: A major cleanup initiative titled “Our Sea, Our Responsibility,” to safeguard the Red Sea’s marine ecosystems, was launched in Jeddah on Thursday.
The participants include the Saudi Red Sea Authority, Border Guard, Jeddah Municipality, Saudi Water Sports and Diving Federation, National Center for Wildlife, and General Organization for Conservation of Coral Reefs and Turtles in the Red Sea.
The initiative focuses on removing hazardous seabed debris that poses a direct threat to coral reefs and marine biodiversity, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Special diving teams conducted underwater surveys and retrieval operations, followed by rigorous sorting, documentation, and safe disposal of recovered waste.
