The United Arab Emirates is calling for restraint and is monitoring the developments in Jammu and Kashmir after India’s revocation of the disputed region’s special status on Monday, according to a statement issued by the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Thursday.

Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs stressed “the need to use dialogue for maintaining peace, security, and stability in the region.”

Following Delhi’s shock revocation in Parliament, Islamabad expelled the Indian envoy on Wednesday, downgraded diplomatic relations with New Delhi and suspended bilateral trade relations with India. 

In response, the government of India said recent developments in Kashmir were “the internal affair of India.”

The UAE foreign ministry said it was confident in the ability of the leaderships of both India and Pakistan to “overcome this crisis through communication and constructive dialogue, away from escalation and confrontation.”

On Wednesday, the UAE issued a travel advisory to citizens asking them to postpone travel to the region after Indian authorities unleashed a complete shutdown on Kashmir following an unprecedented level of troop deployment.
