ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi met the Supreme Court’s Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar in the court building on Tuesday evening.
The rare one-on-one meeting lasted for two hours, but details of what was discussed have not been shared with the media.
The ruling party — in particular the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif — has been criticizing the court over its decision to remove him from office.
Last Saturday, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said in statement that “judicial coup” is not possible and that the democratic setup in the country would stay intact.
Earlier the Chief Justice Saqib Nisar had also rejected the possibility of “judicial martial law”, adding that there is no room for such step in the constitution.
Premier Abbasi arrived at the Supreme Court building without security protocol, and the Chief Justice welcomed him at the judges’ gate.
