ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported one COVID-19 death on Saturday, the lowest fatality count in a single day since March.
While active coronavirus cases dropped to 8,801, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said in a statement on Sunday.
The NCOC, which oversees COVID-19 efforts in the country, added that the development “raises hope that Pakistan is on the right track” in its anti-virus fight.
As of Sunday, 264 new infections were reported in the past 24 hours, adding to the national total of 295,636 cases, while 6,288 people had died from the disease.
Recoveries, on the other hand, reached 280,547 cases at a rate of 94.9 percent with more than 2.6 million tests conducted thus far.
Based on the steady drop in numbers, Pakistan decided to lift all coronavirus lockdowns on August 10. Government and health experts, however, warned the public to follow all official guidelines to prevent future outbreaks.
