PESHAWAR: Six people were killed and five others injured in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province after a passenger van, on its route from Battagram district to Mansehra, plummeted off a bridge and overturned, a rescue official confirmed on Saturday.
The van, carrying 13 passengers, lost control when one of its wheels dislodged.
“Six people, including two women, died and five others were injured after the accident on the Hazara-Mansehra motorway,” Bilal Faizi, the spokesperson for Rescue 1122 in the province, told Arab News over the phone.
“The injured and the deceased were shifted to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital in Mansehra,” he added.
Fatal road accidents are common in Pakistan, where traffic rules are rarely followed and roads, particularly in many rural and northern areas, are in poor condition.
Earlier this month, a wagon transporting 21 people from the same family overturned on the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road in Balakot, resulting in their injuries.
