ISLAMABAD: Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif has been elected as the new president of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) unopposed, on Tuesday.
No other candidate contended for the position during the central executive committee meeting convened today.
Shehbaz was nominated as PML-N’s acting president by Nawaz Sharif in February after Nawaz Sharif was barred from serving as PML-N’s president following the Supreme Court verdict against him in February.
Shehbaz Sharif’s nomination papers have been submitted to the Election Commission where he would now be listed as PML-N’s president.
