ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on Thursday concluded two-week-long “Al-Samsam VII” joint counterterrorism exercise in Hafar Al-Batin in the Kingdom’s Eastern Province, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.
Commander of Saudi Land Forces Lt. Gen. Fahad bin Abdullah Al Mutair and Inspector General Arms of the Pakistan Army Lt. Gen. Khalid Zia witnessed the concluding ceremony.
Al-Samsam drills are part of a series of joint military exercises between the armed forces of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. The previous drill between the two countries was held in Pakistan.
The focus of “Al-Samsam VII” exercise was on the counterterrorism techniques such as cordon and search operations, combat patrols and dealing with improvised explosive devices (IED).
Lt. Gen. Mutair said that Al-Samsam VII drill was part of joint field exercises between the two brotherly states and would help to build combat capabilities of the two armies.
The Saudi general thanked Pakistan for participating in the exercise.
Al-Samsam exercises are part of the preparations to develop and raise the level of competence of military forces and are in line with reinforcing military cooperation between the two countries.
