ISLAMABAD: A Saudi-born Pakistani with Irish citizenship, Fareed Qidwai, has been elected as the Parish Councilor in Chiseldon Parish in Swindon, England, state-run Radio Pakistan reported on Monday.
Fareed is a member of the Liberal Democrat party and was selected as the treasurer of the Swindon Liberal Democrat and an election campaign manager in 2021.
“Fareed Qidwai has been elected as the Parish Councillor in Chiseldon Parish, in a predominantly white town of Swindon,” Radio Pakistan reported. “Fareed has contributed immensely to the local community in Chiseldon, Swindon which resulted in his victory.”
Fareed, a pharmaceutical professional, is “very popular in the community,” Radio Pakistan said, and has also fundraised and actively worked for local primary schools.
Chiseldon Parish covers a mainly rural area within North Wiltshire, much of it lying within the North Wessex Downs area. The parish includes a number of villages and hamlets, including Chiseldon itself, Badbury, Draycot Foliat, Hodson and Ridgeway View.
