ISLAMABAD: A Palestinian rapid response and rescue team arrived in Pakistan on Saturday to provide relief to flood victims in the South Asian country, Pakistan’s foreign ministry said.
Flash floods in Pakistan have killed over 1,500 people, destroyed swathes of crops and demolished thousands of homes in the South Asian country since June 14, according to government estimates.
As Pakistan reels from the catastrophic floods, aid from friendly countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkey and others have arrived to assist the country’s flood victims.
“The Rapid Response & Rescue Team from #Palestine arrived today for a humanitarian relief mission to extend solidarity to ppl of Pakistan affected by catastrophic floods,” Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) wrote on Twitter.
It added that the team comprised experts from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS), Civil Defense and doctors.
The PRCS is a humanitarian organization, that was founded in December 1968. It caters to the health and welfare of the Palestinian people and others. It has 4,200 employees in Palestinian territories West Bank and Gaza Strip as well as in Lebanon, Syria, Egypt and Iraq in addition to its volunteer network of more than 20,000 people.
