ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser is in Saudi Arabia to hold delegation level talks for promoting parliamentary ties between the two countries.

Delegations from the two sides will hold detailed talks and are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on parliamentary cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Qasier is visiting the kingdom upon invitation from Saudi Shoura Council Chairman Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Sheikh. He was received by Dr. Abdullah at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Sunday, the Pakistan embassy in Riyadh said in statement.

During the visit, the speaker of Pakistan’s lower House is scheduled to call on King Salman while the Pakistani delegation will also perform Umrah, the statement added.

“The two dignitaries reaffirmed close and fraternal ties between the two countries, which were reflected by the exchange of frequent and high-level visits,” the statement added.

Dr. Abdullah recently undertook a successful three-day visit to Pakistan heading a Saudi parliamentary delegation on Dec. 4 to discuss bilateral ties.

During the visit, the Pakistani leadership lauded economic and investment cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, including negotiations over Saudi investment in the oil refinery and mineral resource sector.

The visit is expected to open new fora and strengthen bilateral relations.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoy a strong strategic partnership and have lately agreed to enhance cooperation in diverse fields.
