ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday condemned two militant attacks in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province that killed four troops and injured several others.

According to the military’s media wing, ISPR, a security post was targeted by unknown militants in Quetta that killed four soldiers and wounded six others.

The Pakistani troops also returned fire that led to the death of four insurgents and wounded eight others.

In another incident, militants set off a roadside bomb in Turbat in an attempt to target a security vehicle and wounded two soldiers.

“Strongly condemn terrorist attacks against our soldiers in Balochistan last night, martyring 4 soldiers & injuring 8,” Khan said in a Twitter post. “My prayers & condolences go to the martyrs’ families. We will continue our fight ag[ainst] these terrorists & will not allow them to sabotage peace &dev[elopment] in Balochistan.”

According to the Associated Press, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack until now.

Balochistan has been the scene of a low-level insurgency by Baloch separatists who want a greater share of province’s gas and mineral revenue. Although authorities often say they have quelled the insurgency in Balochistan, episodes of violence continue.

The Pakistani prime minister is on a daylong visit to the province where he is scheduled to address the Command and Staff College in Quetta and visit Ziarat residency of the country’s founding father Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
