ISLAMABAD: An elderly Pakistani who works in Saudi Arabia was rewarded on Wednesday March 04 for his hard work by the organization where he has worked for 42 years, as seen in a video of the ceremony that has since gone viral.
According to an Arabic language Twitter post put out on March 04, the employee of Al-Fanar company received a gold bar worth SAR200,000 ($53290) as a reward for his services.
The chairman of the company’s board of directors, Abdul Salam Al Mutlaq, awarded the prize to the worker in a box that mentioned the number of years he had spent at the organization.
The viral tweet does not include the name of the employee or his role at the company, but showed his beaming face.
“This is gold for the Gold Man,” Al Mutlaq said as the elderly employee removed the gold bullion from it’s box.
According to Pakistan’s Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment, over 2.7 million people from the South Asian nation currently reside in Saudi Arabia.
Last December, the bureau reported a marked increase of 207 percent in manpower export to Saudi Arabia in 2019 as compared to the preceding year when 84,091 Pakistanis went to the Kingdom.
Saudi Arabia is also the largest source of remittances to Pakistan.
The latest statistics on the State Bank of Pakistan’s website show an inflow of $433.39 million in remittances from the Kingdom in January 2020.
