ISLAMABAD: The chairman of Pakistan’s upper house of parliament has said Pakistan provided a conducive environment for multi-sector investments from longterm ally and defense partner Saudi Arabia, the Pakistani Senate said in a statement on Wednesday.
Pakistan Senate Chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani welcomed the head of the Saudi Shoura Council, Dr. Abdullah Bin Muhammad Bin Ibrahim Al-Shaikh, at the Parliament House in Islamabad and discussed matters of mutual significance, reiterating that the relationship between the two countries was growing from “strength to strength.”
Al-Shaikh led a delegation to Islamabad on Tuesday night on a three-day visit to Pakistan. He heads the Consultative Assembly of Saudi Arabia, also known as Majlis Ash-Shoura, which is the formal advisory body of the Saudi monarchy.
A statement released by the Pakistani senate chairman’s office said Sanjrani appreciated the decades-old relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, reflected in their mutual trust and confidence in each other.
“Referring to the investment opportunities in Pakistan, the Senate Chairman observed that conducive environment exists for multi sectoral investment and Saudi investors can benefit from the investment opportunities,” the statement said.
Sanjrani spoke about “significant” defense cooperation between the two countries and said the visit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman in February had helped lay the foundation for a new era of cooperation.
“Saudi investment has helped in rejuvenating the confidence of the international community in Pakistan,” the statement said.
The Chairman Senate also thanked the Saudi side for participation in the ‘Asian Parliamentary Assembly Gwadar’ moot and stressed that strong institutional linkages needed to be established between the Senate of Pakistan and the Saudi Shoura Council.
Al-Shaikh thanked the Senate Chairman and members of the Pakistan side for a warm welcome: “Saudi Arabia accords high importance to its relations with Pakistan. He agreed on boosting institutional cooperation between Senate and the Shoura Council,” the senate statement read.
