ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Sunday reported its lowest coronavirus positivity rate since the start of the third wave of the pandemic in March, which officials traced to “timely intervention” and “effective policies” on the part of the government.
“Due to effective policies & timely interventions the #COVID19 positivity ratio in Pakistan drops to 3.1 percent, lowest since current wave of the pandemic started,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said in a Twitter post on Sunday.
“Heartening to see #PakistanMovingForward in its fight against the pandemic,” he added.
According to data by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), which oversees Pakistan’s response to the pandemic, 52,427 coronavirus tests were conducted across the country in the past 24 hours.
Over 1,629 people tested positive for the disease, with 76 deaths reported on Sunday, taking the total tally to 932,140 infections and 21,265 fatalities since the start of the outbreak last year.
The South Asian nation of over 220 million has ramped up its vaccination program in recent months, with more than 8.2 million doses administered since the start of the nationwide drive in March.
