ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has rejected “baseless Afghan allegations” of an airspace violation and raids in Kunar province by its air force on Thursday.

Afghan authorities said no casualties were reported. Islamabad said security forces are undertaking operations in Pakistan’s Bajaur tribal region against terrorist groups that attack Pakistan from their sanctuaries in Afghanistan, killing and injuring civilians.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said information about the operations, which are being conducted on the Pakistani side of the border, is regularly shared with Afghan security forces.

The ministry urged Kabul to take effective counterterrorism measures to prevent the targeting of Pakistani civilians and security forces by terrorists from Afghan soil.

“The Afghan government should refrain from the blame game,” the ministry added. “There is a need to work together to combat terrorism and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation for shared progress and prosperity of the peoples of the two countries.”

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is in Kabul on a day-long visit on Friday, at the invitation of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Gov. Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and National Security Adviser Nasser Khan Janjua are part of the Pakistani delegation accompanying Abbasi.
