ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan spoke to his Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe over the phone on Wednesday and reiterated Pakistan’s offer for assistance in counter-terrorism measures, the PM Office said in a statement.
Khan strongly condemned the bomb blasts that rocked churches and hotels in three different cities of Sri Lanka on April 22 claiming hundreds of innocent lives. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the wounded.
The death toll from Sunday’s multiple blasts has risen to 359 including 45 children, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
More than 500 people were also injured in the horrific terror attacks, including four Pakistanis.
PM Khan said the people of Pakistan stood by their Sri Lankan brethren at this hour of grief. “Being the worst sufferers of terrorism, we can feel the pain of our Sri Lankan brethren,” the statement added.
He said that terrorism knew no boundaries, no religion and threatened peace across the globe.
“Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and will continue to provide every possible support for elimination of this menace,” the statement further quoted Khan as saying.
