ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Navy rescued six fishermen in an operation conducted in the Arabian Sea, it said on Thursday, following a distress call by a stranded vessel.
The operation was conducted by the Pakistan Naval Ship (PNS) SAIF after it received a distress call from a stranded fishing vessel, AL-ZUBAIR, during a routine patrol.
“The fishing vessel had suffered engine failure and subsequent flooding due to rough sea conditions,” the Pakistan Navy said in a statement.
“PNS SAIF swiftly responded to the distress call at night and safely recovered six stranded fishermen.”
The navy said the fishermen were provided medical assistance and subsequently shifted to the Gwadar port city in the southwestern Balochistan province.
Besides ensuring combat readiness at all times, the Pakistan Navy said it remains vigilant to contribute to ensuring the safety of life at sea through sustained presence and monitoring of activities within Pakistan’s territorial waters.
“The fishermen’s community has lauded the efforts of the Pakistan Navy in saving precious lives at sea,” the statement read.
