ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano on Monday discussed cooperation in expanding nuclear power production.

The Prime Minister briefed Amano about Pakistan’s energy development plans and the significance of nuclear power generation as a clean and environment-friendly source of energy.

He also appreciated the positive role played by the IAEA in the promotion of peaceful uses of nuclear technology in Pakistan.

“The Prime Minister observed that Pakistan, which has decades of experience in the use of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, was ready to further strengthen its partnership with the Agency and contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals worldwide,” the statement read.

During his stay in Pakistan, Amano will visit civilian facilities and installations to see the strides made by Pakistan in the application of nuclear technology in areas such as agriculture, health, industry, water resource management, environment protection and food safety.
