ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s caretaker information technology (IT) minister, Umar Saif, said on Thursday his country intended to further expand its relations with Saudi Arabia in the IT and telecom sectors.
The statement came after Saif’s meeting with Saudi Arabia’s ambassador, Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki, in Islamabad.
“Pakistan is keen to further expand ties with Saudi Arabia in IT and telecom sectors,” Saif said on X.
The minister invited Saudi tech companies to invest in Pakistan, saying there was a huge potential for IT and telecom in Pakistan and the South Asian country offered a conducive environment for investment, according to a report by the state-run Radio Pakistan broadcaster.
Ambassador Al-Malki said Saudi Arabia would fully cooperate with Pakistan in IT and telecom sectors and assured his full support in facilitating visas for Pakistani IT companies.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have deep cultural, defense and economic ties, deeply rooted in history and religion. The Kingdom is home to over two million Pakistanis, making it the largest contributor to remittance inflows into the South Asian country.
