ISLAMABAD: Pakistan dispatched its sixth consignment of relief items for Palestinians on Tuesday, the country’s disaster management authority said, amid continuing air and ground assaults by the Israeli military in Gaza that has killed thousands of Palestinian men, women and children since last year.
Israel has killed over 27,000 Palestinians in Gaza since Oct. 7, according to official figures shared by the Palestinian health ministry. Thousands more have been injured as Israel continues to ignore calls from peace activists and governments around the world for a ceasefire, amid warnings from UN agencies of the outbreak of diseases and starvation in Gaza.
Officials of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the foreign ministry and the Palestinian Ambassador in Pakistan, Ahmed Rebai, attended the sending-off ceremony of a civil cargo plane that carried the relief items for the people of Gaza, at the Karachi airport.
“This sixth relief consignment comprises 100 tons of assistance including 30 tons of blankets, special winterized family tents and 70 tons of medicines and tinned food items as per needs at Gaza,” the NDMA said.
The authority said it collaborated with the leading Pakistani non-governmental organization, Alkhidmat Foundation, to arrange the relief items. It added that the flight will land at Al-Arish in Egypt, where Pakistan’s ambassador to Egypt will receive the tranche for further distribution to the Palestinian people.
The NDMA has earlier sent five relief consignments comprising 230 tons of aid which included special winterized tents, blankets, surgical supplies, medicines, and food packs.
“Pakistan remains committed to supporting the Palestinian people during this difficult period, offering its solidarity, and seeking peaceful resolution,” the NDMA said.
