ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Faisal categorically rejected the crass attempts of certain sections of the Afghan media to exploit the tragic bombing at the Kunduz seminary to cast baseless aspersions and insinuations against Pakistan.

“This attempt is made by segments that do not want good relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan,” the spokesman said on Saturday night.

In statement, Faisal said Pakistan had suffered the trauma of similar tragedies and understood and shared the grief of the bereaved families and our Afghan brethren over the loss of precious lives in northern Kunduz.

“Our hearts go out to the families and parents, who lost their loved ones, including innocent children in the tragic incident.”

The spokesman said Pakistan remained committed to doing all it can in support of the brave Afghan nation and its security forces in the quest for lasting peace and stability.

Early this week in Afghanistan, military airstrikes on a Taliban-controlled district of Kunduz killed than 50 people and injured dozens of others.

The United Nations has said it will investigate the military airstrike in Kunduz. The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, or UNAMA, reminded all parties of their obligations to protect civilians from the impact of the armed conflict. “UNAMA (is) actively looking into disturbing reports of serious harm to civilians ... the human rights team is on ground establishing facts,” the mission said.
