SLAMABAD: Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday condemned a rocket attack near the presidential palace in Kabul, and expressed solidarity with the Afghan government and people.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Dr. Mohammad Faisal said the fact that the attack occurred during Eid made it “all the more reprehensible.” Islamabad urged all parties to respond positively to the Afghan government’s cease-fire offer.

Afghan media reported that the Taliban fired two rockets at the palace when President Ashraf Ghani was delivering his Eid speech. The boom of the rockets was heard during the live broadcast of the speech.

The attack comes two days after Ghani announced a conditional Eid truce with the Taliban. It was set to come into effect from Monday for two months, but the Taliban did not reciprocate.
