ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday condemned Israeli attacks on worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem.
At least 163 Palestinians have been hurt in clashes in Jerusalem, according to Palestinian medics. Most were injured at Al-Aqsa Mosque where Israeli security forces on Friday fired rubber bullets and stun grenades amid protests against forced evictions of Palestinians from their homes claimed by Jewish settlers.
“Pakistan strongly condemns the attacks on innocent worshippers in Al-Aqsa Mosque by the Israeli occupation forces, that led to a number of injuries,” the Pakistani foreign office said in a statement.
Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem is one of the holiest sites of Islam. The clashes broke out as Muslims are observing the fasting month of Ramadan.
“Such attacks, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan are against all humanitarian norms and human rights laws,” the foreign office said.
“We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured, reiterate our steadfast support to the Palestinian cause, and once again urge the international community to take prompt action to protect the Palestinian people.”
