ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday condemned an attack by Houthi militants on a village in Saudi Arabia’s southern Jazan region.

Media reported that three civilians — a man and two children — were injured when a military projectile launched by Yemen’s Houthis hit a village on Sunday. The group has fired missiles and drones toward Saudi cities many times, most of which have been intercepted by authorities.

“Pakistan strongly condemns Houthi militants’ terrorist attack by launching of a military projectile on one of the border villages in Jazan area in Saudi Arabia, resulting in injuries to three civilians,” the foreign office said. “These attacks threaten peace and security of Saudi Arabia, as well as the region. We call for the immediate cessation of such attacks.”

“Pakistan reiterates its full support and solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia against any threats to its security and territorial integrity,” the statement added.

The deputy media spokesperson for the civil defense directorate in Jazan region, Lt. Col. Mohammed bin Hassan Al-Samghan, said the missile was fired from inside Yemeni territory at one of the border villages in the Al-Ardha governorate of Jazan, Saudi Press Agency reported on Sunday. Civil defense teams immediately attended the scene, he added.

A man and two children injured by “flying shrapnel” were immediately taken to hospital for treatment. One of the injured was in a critical condition and the other two were stable, SPA said. The shrapnel also damaged a civilian vehicle that was near the site of the attack.
