ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's top commander, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, said that the army would consider it its responsibility to extend full support to Saudi Arabia in training its troops and building capacity, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement released on Wednesday night.

General Bajwa made the comments during a meeting with the delegation of the Royal Saudi Army led by its top commander, General Fayyadh bin Hamid bin Raqed Al-Rowaili, at the army's General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

According to the ISPR's statement, the “geo-strategic” environment and matters related to bilateral and defense cooperation were discussed in the meeting

“The Saudi CGS thanked the Pakistan army for its assistance, especially toward training of the Royal Saudi Army both at Pakistan as well as at KSA through bilateral training cooperation,” it added.

Meanwhile, Saudi General Al-Rowaili “acknowledged the high standards of professionalism of the Pakistan army."

During the course of his visit to the country, General Al-Rowaili also laid a floral wreath at the “Yadgar-e-Shuhada" -- a monument built to honor Pakistani soldiers who died fighting the war against terror.

Earlier on Tuesday, General Al-Rowaili met Pakistan's Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee, General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, and co-chaired the Pak-KSA Joint Military Cooperation Committee's fifth round of talks.

“Regional security situation and bilateral military engagements & training cooperation came under discussion,” excerpts from the statement read.

Pakistan’s President Dr. Arif Alvi also conferred the prestigious Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Order of Excellence) military award on the Saudi Army Chief on Tuesday in a ceremony held at the President House in Islamabad.
