ISLAMABAD: Deputy Secretary of the Russian National Security Council Mikhail Popov on Wednesday appreciated Pakistan's positive outlook and acknowledged the sacrifices it had made against terrorism.
He was in Pakistan along with other senior officials and had separate meetings with Pakistan’s National Security Adviser (NSA) Lt. General (retired) Nasser Khan Janjua and Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua.
The NSA said that apart from focusing on enhancing the scope of bilateral relations and cooperation, regional security matters came under deliberate discussion.
He gave the Russian delegation a detailed presentation focusing on the global trends of power politics, regional security and the role Pakistan plays against terrorism.
“Seeking economic prosperity and investing in peace will enable the world to reap the benefits which Pakistan can offer,” the NSA told the delegation.
He stressed the importance of increasing cooperation among the regional countries and suggested that collective efforts are required to seek peace and stability for the region.
“We are two great nations who have risen beyond the past to embrace the bright future together,” Nasser Khan Janjua said.
“Mr. Popov appreciated the positive outlook of Pakistan and also acknowledged the sacrifices made by Pakistan against terrorism,” an official statement read.
Popov reiterated the commitment of his government to enhance cooperation with Pakistan in all possible areas including military, defense, intelligence, security, energy and training, which was thankfully admired by the NSA.
“Both sides expressed satisfaction over the upward trajectory of bilateral relations and expressed a strong resolve to strengthen it further,” the statement said.
The Russian delegation also discussed defense and security relations with Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua and expressed satisfaction on the current level of cooperation.
“The talks were marked by convergence of views between the two sides on various global and regional issues of mutual interest,” a Pakistan Foreign Ministry statement read.
