ISLAMABAD: The Norwegian government has removed Pakistan from its national threat assessment list, Pakistani state media reported on Sunday.

Pakistan, among other nations, had been on Norway’s threat assessment list for years, which posed significant challenges for Pakistani students and researchers who wished to study or work in the Scandinavian country.

The decision followed effective diplomatic efforts by Islamabad in persuading the Norwegian authorities to exclude Pakistan’s name from their list of nations of “security concern,” Pakistani state-run APP news agency reported.

“Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives bore fruit, leading to its removal from the list,” the report read.

“The announcement came through the latest report issued by Norway’s Police Security Service, which holds responsibility for intelligence and security matters within the country.”

Pakistani students and researchers had faced immense difficulties due to their country’s inclusion to the list.

“This decision is anticipated to bolster Pakistan’s positive image on the global platform and create new educational opportunities for its students and researchers,” the report read.
