ISLAMABAD: King Abdullah II of Jordan called Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday and conveyed his concern over escalating tensions between Pakistan and India, the Prime Minister Office said in a statement.
The king congratulated Khan for displaying statesmanship in handling the crisis and offered “Jordan's mediation to help de-escalate the crisis,” the statement read.
Khan briefed King Abdullah II about his overtures to keep peace with India and reiterated that the core issue between the two countries remained the disputed Kashmir region, which needed “to be resolved as per the UN [United Nations] Resolutions.”
Khan told the king that the Pakistani government’s agenda was to promote peace and prosperity for the people of Pakistan through poverty alleviation and social welfare programs.
“However, the war hysteria unleashed in India was threatening peace of the region,” the statement said.
PM Khan thanked King Abdullah II for his offer to mediate and also invited him to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience.
