ISLAMABAD: A deputy district health officer was suspended on Sunday through a Sindh government order, after it emerged she might have facilitated the out-of-turn vaccinations of family members of an opposition party leader.
The Covid-19 vaccination campaign was launched in Karachi last week with the first phase of the drive exclusively reserved for frontline healthcare workers, followed by people aged 65 years and above.
At the vaccination drive's launch ceremony, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had announced southern Sindh province had received 83,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, and that all doses would be provided to frontline health workers.
But reports and photographs making the rounds on social media on Saturday evening claimed that the daughter and son-in-law of Zubair, a former Sindh governor who belonged to the PML-N political party, were inoculated out of turn even though they were neither health workers nor elderly.
As per the Sindh government directive, Dr. Aneela Qureshi had been suspended and an enquiry ordered into the alleged violations of the vaccination's SOP's.
