ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad on Tuesday called for an early end to visa restrictions on Pakistanis by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in a meeting with UAE ambassador to Pakistan, Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al Zaabi, state radio reported.
Last month, the UAE halted new visas to citizens of 13 mostly Muslim-majority countries, including Pakistan.
According to Radio Pakistan, Al Zaabi informed the interior minister that the visa restriction on Pakistani citizens was temporary and expressed hope the issue would be resolved soon.
The envoy said the Pakistani community had played an “exemplary role” in the development of the UAE, and their wellbeing was the UAE’s priority.
In a Twitter post about the meeting, the UAE Embassy said the ambassador and the minister discussed “bilateral cooperation and mutual coordination between two countries.”
