ISLAMABAD: Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman phoned Prime Minister-in-waiting Imran Khan on Tuesday to discuss various bilateral issues, Pakistan Television (PTV) and PTI media cell reported.

The crown prince congratulated Imran Khan on his election victory and extended best wishes for the prosperity and progress of the Pakistani nation.

“Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said Pakistan has enormous trade and economic opportunities and his country is keen to make investment in Pakistan and strengthen bilateral trade relations,” Pakistan state-run television PTV said while sharing the details of telephonic contact.

“Imran Khan mentioned the effective anti-corruption drive run in Saudi Arabia under the guidance of Crown Prince and said true and effective governance is possible only through the elimination of corruption,” PTV reported.

Saudi Press Agency added that during the call, the crown prince congratulated Khan on being elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, wishing the country progress and prosperity under his premiership. “For his part, Khan expressed thanks to the HRH Crown Prince for the congratulation, reasserting keenness to improve relations binding Pakistan and the Kingdom in all domains,” the agency added.

On Monday, King Salman phoned Imran Khan and invited him to visit Saudi Arabia.

The PTI emerged as the single largest party in Pakistan’s general elections on July 25 and is set to form the government in the center and three of the country’s four provinces.

Khan is scheduled to take the oath as prime minster on Aug. 18.
