PESHAWAR: Three people, including deputy director of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), were injured in a bomb blast on Friday, in Peshawar.

According to initial reports, a motorcycle containing explosive material was completely destroyed after it rammed into Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) PDMA Deputy Director Muhammad Shakeel Ahmed’s vehicle.

Speaking to Arab News, Superintendent of Police (SP) Shahzada Kaukab Farooq said that the blast took place at around 9 am, targeting the official vehicle (AA-58550) of the deputy director in Dir Colony near Ring Road. He said Shakeel, his assistant and driver were injured.

“The bomb was planted in a motorcycle parked on the roadside,” he added.

AIG Bomb Disposal Squad Shafqat Malik told Arab News that the bomb weighed 3kg to 4kg and was planted in the motorcycle. He added that it was a locally made bomb, triggered via a remote control. The chassis number of the motorcycle has been found and the police are investigating the case further.

PDMA spokesperson, Taimur Ali said the injured were rushed to Naseerullah Babar Teaching Hospital located on Kohat Road, close to the blast scene. He confirmed that all three people sustained multiple injuries, but were stable and recovering at the hospital.
