RIYADH: A consultant at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has recommended the strict implementation of rules and regulations to protect people with disabilities.
“The government cares for people with special needs. It has accorded them special privileges so that they may enjoy and live a normal life,” said Salman bin Mohammed Al-Omari.
“The rules and regulations have identified specific places for them in public,” said Al-Omari. He said that under the law, people with special needs have also been given lanes in the streets for their own exclusive use.
“In fact, the government has not spared anything to show its support for them. This should serve as a warning to those who don’t give them due respect,” he said.
The government has urged their families, relatives and friends to take care of them and help them get good education and training.
The government has also encouraged others to help people with special needs so that they may carry out their various duties in religion, science, culture and academe, as many of them posses extra learning abilities, he said.
“The government wants them to think of themselves as normal individuals who are as capable as others,” he added.
Al-Omari, also a researcher at the ministry, said that these laws and regulations protecting people with special needs have often been violated.
