The Southern Philippines Muslim non-Muslim Unity and Development Association (SPMUDA) has ordered its members to donate whatever they can to the flood victims.
SPMUDA founding chairman and Executive President Datu Camad said he was calling on all SPMUDA officers and members in the area to provide assistance in search, rescue and relief operations.
He called upon all SPMUDA Ambassadors of Goodwill around the world to reach out to welfare and humanitarian partner organizations and raise whatever form of assistance they could muster to help thousands of victims.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Tuesday morning that the number of fatalities threatened to breach the 1,000 mark.
In Riyadh, the Federation of Maranao Associations in Saudi and the Ranao Tennis Club have started collecting donations online.
The Integrated Mindanao Economic Forum addressed official letters to some Saudi philanthropists requesting their help, according to its Secretary-General Amen Panolong.
In Jeddah, Jauhari Usman, the former chairman of Filipino community umbrella organization Kasapi Congress and Baloinians Online led by Chairman Datu Soler issued a similar appeal to all concerned OFWs for donation.
In an earlier call, Migrante-Middle East regional coordinator John Leonard Monterona urged the Filipino communities and other OFW (overseas Filipino workers) organizations in the Middle East to mobilize their members and officers to start collecting donations, cash, relief goods and clothing from compatriots abroad for the victims of the typhoon.
In his statement, Monterona said, “We have mobilized our Migrante chapters and member organizations in coordinating bodies in their respective countries that will spearhead gathering of donations, cash, goods, and clothes for the relief operations of our allied NGOs in Mindanao.”
Monterona said Migrante chapters would coordinate this effort with different Filipino communities and Filipino organizations in the Middle East, so that they could gather as many goods, clothes and cash donations as possible.
