“A gas station attendant told Civil Defense investigators he witnessed a white Jeep driven by a young man. The attendant said that as the vehicle was being serviced the driver sped off, ripping off the gas nozzle from the pump causing the fire to ignite,” said Jeddawi.
The gas station fire damaged five gas pumps and three vehicles, but no injuries were reported.
He said another fire that engulfed a two-story furniture store on Madinah Road was not arson.
“It is believed hat the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit, which resulted in some damage to the store and several furniture items on the shop's second floor. Civil Defense personnel were able to contain the fire within its 50-by-50 meter area without the fire spreading to nearby stores,” said Jeddawi.
