He was 61. Akhtar was born in Karachi in 1950 after his parents migrated from Mumbai to Pakistan. A recipient of Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Akhtar appeared in several TV serials. He began his career with Pakistan Television in 1966. Between 1966 and 1975, Akhtar performed in hundreds of shows. Akhtar found a perfect unanimity of tone with his colleagues, particularly Shoaib Mansoor and Anwar Maqsood. During the Imran Khan show, Bollywood actor Raza Murad paid tributes to Akhtar by saying: “Moin Akhtar is to stage what Imran Khan and Sunil Gavaskar are to cricket and Dilip Kumar to films.” Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani expressed grief over his death and called it a great loss for the showbiz world.
