Ministry spokesman Janusz Sejmej said Monday that the move is aimed at strengthening NATO operations in an area with a high Taleban presence.
He said a battalion of US ground troops is to arrive in Ghazni province in the second half of the year to support the 2,600 Polish troops responsible for the area. The US will also equip Poland's forces with much-needed unmanned drone aircraft and mine-detecting equipment.
Homemade road mines are among chief threats to NATO troops in Afghanistan.
