RIYADH: To celebrate Pakistan Day golfers from the subcontinent organized a full handicap stroke play tournament at Dirab Golf Club with Shakeel Said and Kamran Khan taking the overall Best Net and Best Gross titles respectively.

Said came through with a 65 to beat out the two other players to score in the 60s. Khan tallied 81, winning by two shots over the young Pakistani golfer Omar Khan who settled for the First Division crown with a net score of 71.

Omar’s father Salman took second place on 73 with Sandy Gupta rounding out the winners in the division on 80. Omar played to a 12 handicap, Salman 13 and Gupta 15.

Khurshid Ahmed and Abdul Hamed, with a 20 and 28 handicap, ended up tied on a net 68 but Ahmed won on countback for the Second Division.

The third position went to 18-handicap Aftab Ahmad who returned a 71.

Kamran also won the longest drive award and Nabeel Haq claimed the award for closest to the pin.

The raffle draw prize winners of the Al Kayala Airlines return air ticket to Dubai and Ping Pioneer golf bag were Syed Shafiq Ahmed and Ijaz Naqhsbandi.

Sheikh Fahad Abunayyan, vice-general manager of Abunayyan Group, attended the prize giving and handed out prizes to the winners.

Dirab Golf Committee Chairman Naseeruddin Siddiqui put together the successful tournament in association with Khurshid Mirza, Early Birds chairman, and Tariq Sardar, tournament captain.

The tournament was exclusive to subcontinent players only but Siddiqui said the Pakistan Day Golf Tournament next year will be opened to all nationalities and on a big scale. He thanked the Dirab Golf Club management for helping to arrange the event.
