MUMBAI/PUNE: A huge sack containing 11,500 pages of charge sheet against the lone surviving terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Amir Qasab and response to the 30 questions posed by Pakistan relating to the November Mumbai terror attacks were yesterday dispatched to the federal Home Ministry by the Mumbai Crime Branch police.
According to Mumbai police sources, the charge sheet contains confessions made by Qasab and transcripts of the phone conversations between the terrorists and their handlers in Pakistan as also information as to how the terrorists had hijacked a fishing vessel in Gujarat.
The Pakistan government had sent the 30 questions to India after their having conducted an initial probe asking details of the journey of Qasab and his accomplices to Mumbai and the phone conversations. Some of the questions posed by Pakistan were on what basis it was established that Qasab was a Pakistani national, how can it be proved that Qasab was alive, what is the evidence that all the terrorists were Pakistani nationals, and to explain as to how each terrorist were killed by the police, the weapons used by the terrorists and complete details of the Global Positioning System (GPS) allegedly used by them.
The information and details forwarded by the Mumbai police will be vetted before being sent to the Pakistani government. Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram during his recent visit to Mumbai had told journalists that the replies to the 30 questions would be forwarded to Pakistan only after he is fully satisfied with the replies furnished by the Mumbai police and that the Indian government may also seek more questions from Pakistan.
In another development, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar announced and confirmed in Pune yesterday that he would be contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Mada constituency in Solapur district, while his daughter Supriya Sule would contest from his home constituency Baramati.
