RIYADH: Dirab Golf Club in cooperation with Royal Air Maroc is sending a team to represent Asia in an international amateur golf team competition in Agadir, Morocco organized and sponsored by the flag carrier airline of Morocco.

To captain the team is Bouchaib El Jadiani who said this will be the first time players from Saudi Arabia are taking part in the 7th Royal Air Maroc Challenge.

The tournament set March 5 — 9 will be played at the Soleil Golf Club. El Jadiani said the event will have three competition formats namely Nations Cup, Parteneire Cup and Royal Air Maroc Challenge.

Over 100 amateur golfers from North America, Canada, Europe and Africa are seeing action in the tournament being held to promote golf tourism in Morocco.

The players, at least the core group, earned spots on the team and the all expenses paid trip by virtue of their victories in the Royal Air Maroc Trophy which Dirab organized last year.

Abdelkader Boujdoun, regional manager Central and Eastern Area of Royal Air Maroc, assured travel arrangements and hotel bookings of the Dirab team are in order. They will stay at the Royal Atlas Hotel, said Boujdoun.

The Dirab team that leaves tomorrow for Agadir includes the husband and wife teams of Takashi Saito-Mitsuyo Saito and Talal Sarieddine-Aelis Sarieddine. The other members of the team are OR Madarat’s Noel Alipoyo, Rabie Fares, Steve Troup, Francis Gracia, Patrick Kennedy and journalist-golfer Chito P. Manuel.

Agadir, a port city in the south of Morocco, is a popular tourist destination especially among the Europeans who flock Agadir in the winter months.
