OnLine Distribution becomes Westcon ME

The value-added distributor of networking products, OnLine Distribution, has re-branded itself as Westcon Middle East. The move reflects the company’s expanding emerging markets and global capabilities as well as its affiliation with Westcon Group, a multinational specialty distributor of Information Convergence Technology products servicing solution providers, integrators and the value-added reseller community.

The newly-formed Westcon Middle East (www.westconme.com) brings together the leading names in networking to the Middle East, Western Asia and North Africa. Westcon Middle East Group Managing Director Steve Lockie clarified that the company has in basic terms simply orchestrated a brand change, leaving its legal and ownership structures intact. He assured customers that the organization will maintain the same Terms and Conditions embodied in its existing client contracts under the former OnLine Distribution banner. Westcon Middle East remains part of the Westcon Emerging Markets group, reporting directly and funded by Datatec, also Westcon Group’s parent, thus maintaining the company’s current market strategies and support. WestconME represents more than 30 vendors and provides ongoing training and development for resellers and vendor partners.

“On the face of things this is a simple brand change but in reality it brings the true power and presence of Westcon Group to the market,” said Lockie. “We brought the first phase of these to the region in our sister company Comstor just over a year ago and already resellers will be seeing our new brand and marketing tools rolling out. Just this week our Eid greetings piloted the introduction of ‘MailVision’ our reseller awareness tool and there’s a whole lot more to follow. Given today’s challenging markets we continue to be convinced that it is correct to capitalize on the opportunities offered by high-growth areas in the Middle East and emerging economies such as Africa and India.”

LG goes smaller

LG Electronics is showing off its X110 Netbook, a smaller, core computing function-oriented subnotebook.

“LG is pursuing the ideal blend of smart technology and stylish design in order to become a global digital leader,” said Simon Lee, LG General Manager in Saudi Arabia. “The innovative X110 is the result of our efforts to realize this vision. The 3G embedded, stylish X110 will provide customers with a totally new concept in mobile telecommunications, and that is what we have been promising them here in the Kingdom.”

With its embedded 3G HSPA, users don’t need to install additional devices to connect to the Internet with the X110. Also, the netbook is equipped with WLAN 802.11 b/g and 10/100 Ethernet for stable, fast connections. Users can therefore communicate with anyone, at any time, in any place.

The X110 differentiates its design from competitors who recycle the same style over and over. The X110 has a modern rounded shape, which goes well with its thin and light design. Also, consumers can choose among various colors for both the inside and outside of the unit, including white, silver or pink. The X110 guarantees larger storage capacity than its competitors. It is equipped with a 120GB or 160GB Hard Disk Drive. This five-fold improvement on data storage allows users to enjoy advanced productivity. The X110’s WSVGA 10-inch widescreen offers a bright viewing environment without horizontal scrolling. Also, an 82-key full-size keyboard makes typing convenient and more accurate.
